Abbey Road Institute at Angel Studios – Trackwall®
November 9, 2022 | Movable Walls, Music Practice RoomsThe historic Angel Studios – a highly respected music studios in North London, sadly closed towards the end of 2019 and brought back to life by Abbey Road Institute. Abbey Road Institute is the specialist music production school established by the world famous Abbey Road Studios and Universal Music in 2015.
IAC Acoustics were contacted by Chris Walls of Level Acoustic Design to deliver a new project for Abbey Road Institute, revamping the commercial studio space at Angel Studios, ready to welcome back an exciting roster of clients and artists. The existing studio space contained two large timber framed sliding doors separating performance spaces and recording studios. We were challenged to deliver an appropriate opening solution that offered improved acoustic properties, worked within the existing space and also provided an aesthetically pleasing architectural design solution. The commitment to maintaining the high visual appeal and design ethic expected from a world-renowned musical institution was paramount.
Our Trackwall® sliding folding partition system offers a high number of possible configurations for such an application. The Wave Bi-folding system was selected – the Rw42dB system is fully retractable allowing for easy access to move large equipment in and out of the studio space, providing a sleek modern aesthetic and higher acoustic performance than the existing solution.
Chris introduced us to Mike Sinnott, Campus Manager from Abbey Road Institute London, after a product demonstration he was convinced this was the right product specification;
“IAC Acoustics Trackwall® system was exactly the flexible opening solution we were looking for – large enough opening to manage equipment through, while looking the part and delivering the acoustic performance”
Effective project management, site surveys and understanding access and installation requirements were a key element of delivering this project – with such a busy working studio it was essential to manage the programme effectively for the Abbey Road Institute and Angel Studios team and their clients, minimising disruption and getting the space back to full functionality quickly.
The project management, delivery and installation teams were able to coordinate an effective installation schedule with the minimum of disruption, a dry fit and consideration for the facilities and other users . The client was extremely happy with the outcome and acoustic and design consultant Chris Walls commented;
“The new doors have modernised the room and have taken at least 20 years off of it. It’s a pleasure to deliver another world famous studio project working with IAC Acoustics and their product portfolio again.”
The project was a huge success and delivered an outstanding result for a very happy client, whilst meeting all the targets made from the initial consultation meeting. We will let the images of this iconic studio speak for themselves in our project gallery.
